Transponder Key Programming

Mobile Chip Key Programming & Replacement

Many modern vehicles use transponder (chip) keys that must be programmed to the vehicle before they will start the engine. Simply cutting the key is not enough—the vehicle’s immobilizer must recognize the chip inside the key.

We provide mobile transponder key programming for a wide range of vehicles, whether you’re adding a spare key or replacing a lost one.

What Is a Transponder Key?

A transponder key contains a small electronic chip that communicates with the vehicle’s security system. When the key is inserted or detected, the vehicle checks for the correct signal before allowing the engine to start.

If the chip is not programmed correctly:

  • The engine will not start

  • The security light may stay on or flash

  • The key may turn but do nothing

Adding a Spare Transponder Key

If you still have at least one working key, adding a spare transponder key is often the simplest scenario. In many cases this involves:

  • Verifying the correct key type

  • Cutting the key to match the vehicle

  • Programming the new chip to the immobilizer

Having a spare key can prevent future no-spare situations and reduce costs down the road.

Lost Transponder Key With No Spare

When all transponder keys are lost, additional steps are required. The vehicle’s security system must be accessed to allow new keys to be programmed.

Lost-all-keys situations may involve:

  • Advanced diagnostics

  • Security access or wait times

  • Additional programming steps

Because of this, pricing for no-spare transponder key jobs cannot be confirmed without first inspecting the vehicle.

Aftermarket vs OEM Transponder Keys

Not all transponder keys are created equal. Some aftermarket keys:

  • Program correctly and work normally

  • Start the vehicle but lack remote functions

  • Fail to program at all

Key compatibility depends on the vehicle and system type. We verify compatibility before proceeding to avoid partial or failed programming.

Why Transponder Key Pricing Varies

There is no flat price for transponder key programming. Cost depends on:

  • Vehicle year, make, and model

  • Whether a working key is available

  • Key type and security system

  • Time and equipment required

A diagnostic fee may apply, especially in no-spare situations.

What to Expect During Service

  1. Vehicle and key information is confirmed

  2. Diagnostics are performed if required

  3. Final pricing is explained before work continues

  4. Key cutting and programming are completed

No work beyond diagnosis proceeds without approval.
